It’s early and I’m hungry. A distinct advantage to being at home as opposed to being on the road is that when I wake up at 4:30 and can’t fall back asleep, I can make coffee and breakfast. Here in the hotel room, I can make coffee, but no breakfast. For some reason, I thought this room had a microwave and that I could heat up some oatmeal. It doesn’t. I also thought this was a hotel that had free breakfast it isn’t. The nearest breakfast place doesn’t open until 8 and the nearest coffee shop opens at 7. Even in my uncaffinated state, I felt mildly struck by ingenuity in thinking I could use the coffee maker to heat water for the oatmeal. Then I remembered I didn’t have any utensils (at least not in the room with me).
I’ve had more than a few Charlie Brown moments in the last twelve hours. Last night, I left my credit card with my bill at the restaurant. By the time I realized it, they were closed. I’m hoping they have it and I don’t have to go through the hassle of cancelling. I have several other cards, so it doesn’t leave me penniless, it’s just a pain in the ass. Also last night, as I walked towards a strip of bars, I passed under a tree and a bird crapped on me. I was wearing a white t-shirt and it was dark crap. I went back to my hotel, rinsed the shirt, changed and tried again. Apparently, I took the same street and walked under the same tree and a bird (perhaps the same angry, anti-Matt bird) pissed on me – this time it only hit my arm but still…
I’m hoping these aren’t omens for the next few days. I’ve already checked the weather, and it looks like it might rain the entire time I’m in Austin – which I suppose is better than bird crap.
